90 Day Internet Marketing Challenge – Week 2 Recap

February 3rd, 2009

So I’m a bit behind on video blogging about this…

I actually recorded last Thursday, but never got that video to the web.

But, I’m proud to say that I’ve made it through 2 weeks without missing a day of doing something each day.  The biggest area I’m behind in is article marketing.  I’m going to spend some time during the day coming up with articles to write and knock them out in the early part of the night, when my brain is still fresh.

So this week I concentrated heavily on blog marketing, videos, social bookmarking, social sites (mainly Twitter), and forum marketing.  The results?  More traffic, more opt-ins.

Right now I’m in the process of rebranding around 1GB of team videos to use with a different profile with Traffic Geyser.  I will use some similar keywords, some slightly different keywords, and work on starting to promote another set of videos through these different channels.

Something else I started playing with, just as an experiment, is auto-blogging.

The concept is more natural to affiliate marketing than network marketing, but wanted to see if it would work.  Quite simply, autoblogging is a method of setting up a blog to post a series of articles or content on specified days.  I took the time to set it up and put enough content to run until mid December.  It will use one keyword combination and send it to my http://www.BrentsPlan.com domain.

Another thing I have started going is submitting my blog’s RSS feeds to different feed directories.  It spreads the word about my blogs as well as adds additional backlinks in the search engines.  Fortunately, its a one-time act per blog.  I’ll monitor over the next several weeks and months to see if it increases traffic.

My results after 2 weeks?  Traffic is still increasing and becoming more steady (Saturday was a bit low on traffic, but thats okay).  Opt-ins are coming in more.  And, minus getting tired at times, I’m really enjoying this challenge.  Its pushing me, but its building the character that it takes to be consistent with my business and to build something that means something.

I have some great thoughts regarding dreams (well, more thoughts on dreams) and passion that I have posted on my other blogs.  I’ll write some about that here starting tomorrow.  Until then…have a great night/day/etc!

90 Day Internet Marketing Challenge – Google #1 Ranking

January 28th, 2009

number1_googleSo while doing what I do on a daily basis, I had a really, really high Google ranking.

The SERPS returned over 4 billion pages (nearing 5 billion) and yet I had a social bookmark put my blog at #1.

I could not believe it and knew others might not, so I decided to do a screen capture as well as annotate on the picture where I am and show the search results.

Now, I did not expect it to stay there.  It was a social bookmark and not a main page, and did not have the SEO to keep it that high for too long.  Sure enough, after Google shifted their index (which they do often), it dropped out of #1 after a 24 hour run there.

It still is in the top 20 for the keywords mentioned.  Shift around the keywords to another searchable phrase and I still end up in the top 10 out of millions and millions of results.

So what did I learn through all of this?

Keep doing what I’m doing and something will hit eventually.  Eventually, something will stick at #1 and stay there.  And when it does, that is when the harvest begins.

By the way, I spent some time branding team videos tonight.  I lost my count, but I believe there are around 200 of them.  I’m about 15% through branding all of them and have to find more keywords.

Tomorrow I plan to post the first of my series on the power of harnessing the dream.  Would love some comments and feedback from everyone.

Internet Marketing, SEO, And My Meteoric Climb

July 30th, 2008

I’m very impressed.

In fact, I’m SHOCKED at what I managed to pull off today.

I have a website out there that was not indexed this afternoon.  I had not really tried to do a lot to get in indexed, but decided that tonight was the night.  Not a lot of competition for the keyword (only around 170k), but not a lot of content on my site.

So, I took a few steps tonight:

1.  Submitted it through SocialMarker.com.  Didn’t make it through all of the sites, as there is a bug about halfway through it that takes it off the submission sites.  But Digg, Del.icio.us, and StumbleUpon all caught it.

2.  I also submitted a video for the site.  It hit around 30 video sites, blogs, Podcast directories, etc (I also expect some of the videos to hit the top 10 overnight).

And then I checked.

Not only did Google index it, but it appeared #7 for the keyword!

So now its time for Phase 2:  Break the top 5, and see if I can hit #1 or #2.

Stay tuned….

Internet Marketing Through Video Web Marketing

July 16th, 2008

Ok, I’m going to admit something here.

My first 10 or so attempts at video web marketing have been fairly brutal.

Its not that I consider myself a horrible person on camera or that I cannot handle putting together a video. What I do realize, however, is that my videos come across as too much of a pitch.

So I’m switching the strategy that I’m going to use. Provide information first, do little sales techniques, and focus on content and sincerity.

In fact, most of what I am going to try when recording myself is video blogging style videos. I plan on consulting with my mentor about it and see which works out best. His videos are attractive. They are done on a little more “professional” level (I’ve seen his equipment, he has me out-classed in this department).

Here is my first cut of it. I’m using my YouTube posting. For those who know anything about video marketing, you know that its about volume…not in the amount of videos you produce, but in the amount of videos that are out there on various sites. I mention this in the video: YouTube does not always return the highest ranking hits for a keyword.

A great tool for this is Traffic Geyser. Its costly, but easy to use and will get your video out across a LOT of websites in a short amount of time. From there, its up to Google/Yahoo/Live.com/etc to pick it up and your content to interest the viewer.
