MLMer’s/Network Marketers Know What CEO’s Are Just Now Learning

February 21st, 2010

I love MLM and/or network marketing.  I know a lot of people think it is a giant pyramid scheme (or “pyramid thing” as most people say to me) but in reality, every major corporation is a pyramid in nature.

But the big difference is that those of us in MLM and network marketing have known for a very long time what many CEO’s do not know or are just finding out.

My wife has started watching the show “Undercover Boss.”  It is a show where a CEO or high ranking corporate executive goes undercover and into their company to learn how things are really going on the bottom ranks.  Each week the CEO/executive’s eyes are opened to the struggle people go through between work and personal life.  Some employees receive something very nice for sharing their struggles as a sign that the CEO really cares about them as a person.

But the ironic thing is this:  For a profession that is attacked from every angle, MLM/network marketing, we understand that it is people that build our business (and their business, too).  Every major MLM leader I have had the chance to know all care about the people on their teams and take the time personally to work with them, help them, let them vent, or whatever is needed.

I’ve seen time after time where a leader will take the time to get to know their new people who are producing.  I’ve even received calls from my upline support team when I joined a company.

If corporate CEO’s would learn from MLM, they’d realize that the ability for a business to grow comes from the people in the field and not shareholders.

When an MLM leader works with someone in the field to help them achieve success, their revenue grows.

So while the CEO’s on “Undercover Boss” are figuring it out, just know that real leaders in MLM have known this for a lot longer.

Avoiding MLM Hype, Lies, And Scams

August 5th, 2009

I am a fairly regular poster on a number of forums, so I see a lot of MLM companies come and go.

I also see a lot of people, and usually the same people, rise and fall with these companies.

Now, I love the MLM/Network Marketing industry.  I believe it is truly the only way for an average person without tons of capital to build a lucrative business.  But the MLM hype, lies, and scams only seem to be increasing in popularity recently.

Take for instance Buzzirk Mobile/Global Verge.  The company was full of hype from the onset.  Technology that does not exist, relationships with major cellular carriers that did not exist, and more plagued this company and its distributor force from the start.

Yet their over zealous reps spammed forums, defended their company, yet have nothing to show for it.  Over a month past the launch deadline and no product.

Then there is the “portal” website companies making the rounds.  These companies claim that you can make money when people surf your “web portal” (a fancy term for a website).  One is even paying a “customer acquisition bonus” for customers that pay $0 and have no guarantee of producing revenue.

No product that is sold to generate revenue + bonuses based on recruiting and gathering free customers = not going to last long against regulatory scrutiny.

Of course, these companies are claiming partnerships with legitimate, established companies like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, etc.

Lies.  MLM lies at their best.

The bottom line is MLM can work for you.  The problem is digging through all of the garbage to find the real companies with real potentials.   Even a company like Amway will take you further than these other types of companies.

Of course, I’m fond of my MLM company and for good reason.  But I was fortunate enough to learn from a mistake early on in my home business endeavours to learn how to research a company properly and thoroughly and learn what makes a company not only legitimate but sustainable.

So avoid the MLM hype, lies, and scams, and focus on finding legitimate MLM opportunities to build your future on.

And if you are looking for an MLM opportunity with long term and international potential, ask me, Brent Worley, about Zurvita and how we will help you build nationally and internationally.

Why MLM/Network Marketing As A Home Based Business?

August 4th, 2009

Why is MLM/Network Marketing a great choice for an entrepreneur to start a new business or home based business?

Let me give you an example of why I believe MLM/Network Marketing is great for home based businesses by talking about an industry I was in while in high school:  Computer repair, parts, and service.

I was a techie when I was a kid (and still am to this day).   I worked for a local computer shop.   We built computers, we repaired them, we sold individual parts, did networking, all of it.

But what I learned here was a simple concept called a distribution channel.  I knew we were at the end of the chain and there were some companies between us and the manufactuer.

We bought our product from a wholesaler.   The wholesaler either bought from another wholesaler or the manufacturer.  There might have been multiple wholesalers involved.   What I did know, though, is that every company that touched that product added their mark-up for profit, and we were no different.

So, in a nutshell:

A manufacturer recruited a lot of wholesalers to sell their product.

Wholesalers either sold to us  or other retailers for a profit, or sold to other wholesalers for a small profit.

We sold to consumers, for a profit.

With MLM/Network Marketing, you can be the wholesaler and the retail.  You can recruit others to sell the products (and you get paid on it) or you can sell retail, and get paid on it.

The difference between MLM/Network Marketing and the example I gave is very simple:  You do not have to have $1k+, $10k+, $100k+ or more in inventory sitting around to sell to people.

But the great thing about MLM/Network Marketing is you can receive revenues through multiple channels in your sales organization, or distribution chain.

So just like a manufacturer, you may have many distribution chains going, generating sales and revenue through your MLM/Network Marketing home based business.  This creates leverage and residual income or passive income.

The Ugly Truth Behing Network Marketing/MLM Company Hoppers – The Difference Between “Reps Leaving” and Leadership

July 26th, 2009

Here’s the ugly truth to people who “hop” network marketing/mlm opportunities and then promote it everywhere:

They are only hurting themselves and the dreams of many others!

I was watching a video online for a guy who supposedly was in my network marketing opportunity.  This person spewed lies, rumors, and opinions posed as facts in this video for no other reason than to make himself look like a leader in his company and opportunity.

But after talking with his upline in a previous company (recently previous, mind you), I found out the truth about this guy:  He jumps from opportunity to opportunity, looking for the “next best thing” and dragging his team with him.

And in the midst of talking with my friend, I also learned that many of the people who have been burned by this individual are giving up on their dreams and leaving the industry, opting for the “security” and restrictions of a job.

Well, here’s the ugly truth behind Network Marketing/MLM “hoppers” and “next best thing” chasers:

They are not leaders.  They are hunters and gatherers, wanting to find who they can prey on to make money in whatever they feel inclined to move to next.  They never take the time to develop themselves within a company, nor do they develop leaders within a company.

These people claim that “reps are leaving” companies, as this guy claimed in his against my company, but realize that not everyone who joins a company stays, and not everyone who leaves is that important to the company.  There is a difference between a leader and a rep, and it has nothing to do with income.

No, the difference between a leader and a rep is that a leader sees the vision for themselves AND their team, takes time to grow, and takes more time to develop leaders.

They do not look for opporutnity after opportunity, hoping to make a few more bucks or the newest gizmo/tech/nutritional/whatever.

No, leaders take time to develop leaders.

And if they leave without doing so, they are just another rep in the field.

Network Marketing/MLM is all about developing yourself to a leader by developing other leaders.  How can you develop leaders if you cannot settle into a company and get to work?

Don’t mistake the two, and don’t let these reps move cause you to lose the focus off of your dream.

Successful Home Business Advice From Nickelback

June 26th, 2009

I was driving in my car the other day when I received a lesson in building a successful home business from the group Nickelback. In specific, the lyrics to the song “If Today Were Your Last Day” struck me as something that everyone who desires to be successful in a home business should learn.

Now, obviously Nickelback is not in the home based business industry nor do they teach people how to build a successful MLM or network marketing company. “If Today Were Your Last Day” mentions several incredible teaching that people who strive to build a successful home business in network marketing should grasp.

1. Each Day Is A Gift And Not A Given Right

No one is guaranteed tomorrow. If something were to happen to you, do you feel you have built your business large enough to leave a legacy income, or at least enough to take care of your loved ones? What is getting in your way?

Instead of focusing on what you can do tomorrow, do what you can today. And repeat this everyday.

2. Take the Path Less Traveled

My mentor had a motivational poster in his office that had this saying, and I paraphrase: To get what you have never had, you must learn to do what you have never done.

Not many people like to go through the struggles of building a successful home business. It is not an easy task. Most people give up when things get tough. But if you want more out of life and want to see your business reach your dreams, you must be willing to sacrifice and do more. Get out of your comfort zone, or at least expand what your comfort zone is.

3. Say Goodbye To Yesterday

So this is your first company, you are two or three months in and have not made a dime. Don’t let your lack of success determine what you do today.

Even if this is your second, third, or even tenth home business company, do not let past failures determine what you do today and how you will build your success today. Many people who have built successful home businesses failed many times before they became successful. Do not give up and keep striving for success.

4. What’s Worth The Price Is Always Worth The Fight

Think about the reason why you started your home business. Was it to spend more time with family? To take more trips? To have a better nest egg? Quit your job?

Whatever the reason you started your home business, network marketing or MLM business, remember that the struggles are just a means to the end. As one mentor of mine said, you have to love the process. Keep your eye on the prize and never give up. Realize that the struggles you endure now will pay off in the future.

5. Let Nothing Stand In Your Way ‘Cause The Hands Of Time Are Never On Your Side

This is my personal favorite in the song. All too often we encounter rejection. Business is slow, we finally talk to someone interested in our product or business, and they reject us for whatever reason.

Instead of letting that rejection keep you down, press on! You never get a chance to do “right now” over again, so always take advantage of every moment you have. Work hard to build your business and let nothing keep you from your goals.
