Story #1 begins with you having (as in, if you don’t, you’ll immediately fail) to make a list of 30-100 people you know that you can call and “expose” your business to. You call them, not knowing if they are interested or not, and deal with rejection, ridicule, and the occassional yes.
And then after you go through that list, you work referrals. These may be people you know, people you don’t, but you contact them.
To supplement this, you have to have other “leads.” So you place newspaper ads, place flyers around, put up signs, do whatever it takes to get more people to talk to (i.e. pay money to generate leads).
If none of this works that well, you can buy “opportunity leads.” Now, I do not know if you have ever worked an “opportunity lead” but you never know what you are getting. Some of these leads have been contacted 1 time, 2 times, 5 times, 10 times, or more. They may be a few minutes old, days old, or weeks old. You simply do not know.
And, of course, this gets expensive.
Story #2
